Splatoon: outcome of private matches will not affect your rank, video for the Slosher

Today, the official Twitter account for Splatoon in Japan gave some more details about the upcoming Software update. This time around, it’s on the Private Battles that Nintendo chose to focus, with some crucial details about it.

Splatoon update 1

For those who don’t know, Private Battles is a mode that allows you to always play with your friends (and only your friends). You can chose the rules, maps, weapons, and even the number of players per team (which may not necessarily be balanced, like 2vs2… 4vs1 is also possible for example).

Today, Nintendo explained that the outcome of Private Battles will not impact your total amount of points, or your rank. If you want to level up or get a better rank, you will have to play with other players in public battles. The developers most likely added this restriction to prevent abuse, with cheaters asking their friends to lose on purpose so they could get points or a better rank.

Also, Nintendo confirmed that you can use a password (4 numbers) to protect your lobby, in order to avoid unwanted friends to join (which will be quite useful if you have lots of people on your friend list).

Here’s a screenshot for this feature:

But that’s not all: the Squid Research Lab also uploaded a video for the Slosher, which shows how this bucket-like weapon is used.

The first major update for Splatoon will be released on August 6th in Japan and Europe, August 5th in North America.
