Sonic Mania: release date revealed, new trailer, (fake) commercial for the LE

This year, Sonic fans are getting not one, but two new games:

  • Sonic Forces, the latest 3D Sonic entry
  • Sonic Mania, the latest 2D Sonic entry

And yesterday, SEGA finally revealed the release date for the latter. Sonic Mania will be released on August 15th in Europe and North America, and August 16th in Japan.

The game is now available for pre-purchase on digital platforms… with the exception of the Nintendo eShop. Since Nintendo doesn’t offer pre-loading on the Nintendo eShop of the Nintendo Switch (which is still missing quite a lot of features), players interested in the digital version of the game will have no other choice but to wait until launch day to buy it.

Sonic Mania will cost $19.99 USD/$25.99 CAD/25.99€.

Next, here’s the trailer that was revealed yesterday:

It doesn’t show that much gameplay footage, but it’s still a pretty neat trailer that is definitely going to put a smile on the face of long-time fans!

Next, here’s a couple more screenshots for the game:

Finally, we have one last video: a (fake) commercial for the Limited Edition of Sonic Mania (which will not be available for the Nintendo Switch in Japan).

Sonic Mania (Switch) will be released on August 15th in Europe and North America, and August 16th in Japan. The Upcoming Releases page has been updated!
