Shovel Knight: Ver. 3.0A and Specter of Torment expansion now available in Japan (Wii U / 3DS)

Update: the update is now available on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in North America. Click here for more details!

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Specter of Torment were both released on Nintendo Switch at launch (on March 3rd), but only in Europe and North America. In Japan, the Nintendo Switch version of both is still MIA, but at least, players can finally play Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment!

Indeed, Ver. 3.0A for Shovel Knight was finally released today in Japan on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, even before Europe and North America. You can find the full patchnotes for the update on this page! The main addition for this update is obviously the new Specter of Torment expansion, though there are quite a lot of new additions/changes/fixes too.

Unfortunately, it’s not clear when the stand-alone version of the expansion will be released in Japan, or if there will be such a release at all. After all, Nintendo is the publisher in Japan, and it’s possible they’re not planning to do like Yacht Club Games in the west with both updates for the Treasure Trove edition and stand-alone releases for the expansions.

Here’s a trailer and some screenshots for the update:

If you’re still waiting for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS updates and the stand-alone release of Specter of Torment, both will be released before the end of the month in Europe and North America.
