Shin Megami Tensei IV Final: more details about the story and gameplay

Shin Megami Tensei IV FinalIn its latest issue, Famitsu gives us some more details about Shin Megami Tensei IV Final, and more precisely the story and the gameplay. As mentioned on Tuesday, the protagonist (voiced by Hiro Shimono) is a member of the Outlaw Hunters, and more precisely an apprentice. During a mission, he dies after a surprise attack by demons.

He then wanders in the underworld, and comes across Daguza, the Majin (Demon God). He makes a pact with him, and agrees to help him with his plans. Those plans consist in killing all gods, and that’s how the protagonist becomes a God Slayer.

Thanks to Daguza, he comes back to life, and acquires a really useful ability: demon summoning. Using his newfound power, the protagonist has no trouble surviving in Tokyo, the Demon Capital. He’s always accompanies by Daguza, who resides in his smartphone and keeps constant watch on him.

The game takes place right when the Final War between Archangel Merkhaba and the Demon King Lucifer is drawing to an end. At that time, the Association of Gods (a group of gods) suddenly appear, and start demanding that all humans relinquish their soul.

Gameplay-wise, Famitsu reveals that players will be able to select one ally as a Partner. Obviously, each ally has his/her own skills: for example, Asahi (the protagonist’s childhood friend) specialises in healing, while Navarre is more at ease with attacks using items, and support magic. On each turn, your Partner will assist you, and they will also get some XP. By leveling up, they will acquire new skills and abilities: Asahi will get the ability to heal status ailment, for example.

Shin Megami Tensei IV Final (3DS) comes out on February 10th in Japan.
