PokéNews (Aug. 14, Round 2): Pokémon GO (Mewtwo & Exclusive Raid Battles), Pokémon Sun and Moon

Today’s Pokémon news (Round 2): Mewtwo and Exclusive Raid Battles coming to Pokémon GO, but also…

  • Pokémon Sun and Moon – Salazzle distribution
  • Pikachu Outbreak
  • Snapchat

Pokémon GO

Earlier today, Mewtwo made an appearance at the Pokémon GO Stadium event in Yokohma (in Japan). Players were able to battle it during a special Raid Battle, and then catch it. It wasn’t clear when Mewtwo was coming to other countries, but Niantic has just announced that it was coming soon!

In the upcoming weeks, a new feature will go live: the Exclusive Raid Battles. And yes, you guessed it: Mewtwo will be available there.

As you can imagine, Exclusive Raid Battles are pretty much the same thing as Raid Battle, but there’s a major difference: you need to be invited to take part in one. In order to receive one, you need to have completed a raid battle recently (you need to defeat the Raid Boss there), at the same Gym the Exclusive Raid Battle will be taking place.

The invitation includes advance warning of when the Exclusive Raid will take place, allowing you to coordinate with other players before taking the Raid Boss.

Mewtwo is the first Pokémon that you will be able to get via Exclusive Raid Battles, but other powerful Pokémon will soon start to hatch from Raid Eggs.

Speaking of powerful Pokémon, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Lugia are back in Pokémon GO from August 14th to August 31st.

Finally, here’s a few pictures of Mewtwo at the Pokémon Stadium event in Japan:

Pikachu Outbreak

Here’s various short videos about the Pikachu Outbreak event in Japan, shared by The Pokémon Company on Twitter:

Snapchat

As announced earlier today, some Pikachu-themed features are now available in Snapchat (but only for a limited time). For starters, you can use the special Pokémon lens to add the look of Pikachu to your pictures. If you open your mouth, you can call Pikachu to join you in the photo! If sound is turned on, you can hear Pikachu’s cry, too.
