Overcooked: details about Nintendo Switch version contents, more

Overcooked: Special Edition is a multiplayer, co-op cooking game, where you and your friends have to co-operate in order to cook various dishes. It was announced for the Nintendo Switch during the Nintendo Switch Nindie Showcases a few weeks ago, but unfortunately, we still do not have a release date for it yet.

In an interview with Nintendo, the developers shared some details about the contents of the Nintendo Switch version of Overcooked. It will include the following:

  • all 30 levels from the original version
  • all 14 extra levels
  • new mechanics
  • new recipes
  • new equipment (such as the flamethrower)
  • and more…

In this interview, the developers also talk about why they chose to make the game a co-operative one (and not competitive), how they’re planning to make use of HD Rumble, what’s the secret behind the game’s success, and more.

Here’s an excerpt:

We’d been speaking to Nintendo about maybe releasing it on Wii U. Obviously, at that time it was kind of the end of the Wii U lifecycle and everyone at Nintendo was gearing up for the Nintendo Switch and nobody really knew what it was going to be. Then, when it was announced what the Nintendo Switch was, that was when we immediately saw the potential. Everyone was instantly on Twitter or emailing us and just asking, ‘Hey guys, when is Overcooked gonna come out?’. You know, it’s a console that comes with two controllers, so it’s perfect for Overcooked.

Overcooked: Special Edition (Switch – eShop) comes out later this year in Europe and North America.
