Nintendo Switch: Snake Pass / The Jackbox Party Pack 3 / TumbleSeed

Yesterday, not one, not two, but three separate games were all announcement for the Nintendo Switch: Snake Pass (from Sumo Digital), The Jackbox Party Pack 3 (from Jackbox Games), and TumbleSeed.

Snape Pass

Developed by Sssssumo Digital, Snake Pass is the sssstudio’s very first independent game, and the ressssult of their first internal game jam. It’s a physical action-puzzle game, where you literally ssssslither your way through levels. It will be released in Ssssspring on the Nintendo Switch, alongsssside the other platforms the game is ssssslated for.

In this game, you get to play as Noodle the Sssssnake (accompanied by Doodle the Hummingbird, his best friend), exploring the mountain of Haven Tor. You have to tackle various levels (15 in total, in 4 different worlds), filled with ssssnake-bending obstacles and perilous pitfalls, in order to find and restore the Keystones that give Haven Tor its’ mythical power.

Believe it or not, Snake Pass has only been in development for the Nintendo Switch for… a month. And yet, the team has already made a lot of progresssss. Here’s what Paul Porter (Sumo Digital COO) had to ssssay about that:

Considering the short amount of time we have been working on the platform and the fact that the Switch isn’t launched yet, things have gone surprisingly well. We had the game up and running within a week. Nintendo and Epic have given us tremendous support when needed. The use of Unreal gave us a great head start when we first got the hardware.

Performance-wise, the Nintendo Switch version of Snape Pass will run at:

  • 30FPS @ 720p in handheld and tabletop modes
  • 30fps @ 1080p in TV mode.

As the for the price, it will be “in line with other versions”.

Snake Pass (Switch – eShop) does not have a release date yet, but it should be released before the end of March.

The Jackbox Party Pack 3

Yesterday, Jackbox Games announced they were bringing the The Jackbox Party Pack 3 to the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much all we know about it for now!

TumbleSeed

TumbleSeed is a “rolly roguelike”, where you play as a seed who has to roll up a procedurally generated mountain filled with holes and corrupted creatures. Your goal is to reach the very top of the mountain, in order to save your home.

To do so, you have to balance the seed, use upgrades to become more powerful, and rely on the new friends you meet on the way to the top. The developers promise simple controls that are easy to pickup, but difficult to master.

TumbleSeed features 30 seed powers, such as:

  • ThornSeed: the default attack, available from the start (you always have it). It can be a bit hard and risky to use it, but it certainly does its job well if you know how to use it;
  • SpringSeed: a pretty useful seed power for when you need to escape, as it allows you to literally fly above danger. To be used in combination with BombBud, Maneater, or even LaserTrap;
  • StormSeed: allows you to call down a rain cloud, that fills holes with rain. To be used in combination with MaceSeed, or even ThornThrowers.

Here’s a trailer and some pictures:

TumbleSeed (Switch – eShop) will be released this Spring in Europe and North America.
