Nintendo: some sales data for the French market (Zelda, MK8D), sales target for the Switch

In a recent interview with Le Monde, Philippe Lavoué from Nintendo France shared some juicy sales data for the French market. First of all, he shared Nintendo’s pretty ambitious sales target for the Nintendo Switch: about 400 000 units during the next 10 weeks (until the end of the year, basically).

Here’s what he had to say about that:

The stakes are pretty high, our goal is to sell as many Nintendo Switch consoles during the next 10 weeks than we have since launch, thanks to Super Mario Odyssey. That’s 400 000 units. It’s [like] the second launch for the console.

In other words, the Switch has already sold over 400 000 units in France, and Nintendo is expecting to sell as many before the end of the year, so 800 000 units during the first 9 months. That would be more than what the Wii U sold… LTD. Considering the last quarter of each year is by far the most important one for video games sales in France, and especially for Nintendo, this is an ambitious yet sensible sales target for the company.

Back in March, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold about 97 000 units during the opening week-end, and Nintendo would definitely like Super Mario Odyssey to do as good, if not better, than that. Speaking of Zelda, it’s the most popular game on the platform, with 280 000 units sold to data.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe isn’t that far behind, with 260 000 units sold since launch. It definitely would not be surprising if Mario Kart 8 Deluxe surpassed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the next few months.
