[N-Direct] Animal Crossing Direct + Free amiibo Update for AC New Leaf & More
Remember those Animal Crossing-series amiibo you keep seeing in stores that seemingly nobody is buying? They’re getting a lot more useful soon. Nintendo today gave a sneak peek into what’s going on with Animal Crossing in the near future with an Animal Crossing-focused Mini-Direct scheduled for November 2, 2016.
This November will essentially be Animal Crossing month for Nintendo. Starting with the Direct on the 2nd of November, you will learn more about the upcoming free update for Animal Crossing New Leaf that introduces amiibo support into the more than three year old game to encourage players to check back in and see how their town is doing. All Animal Crossing-series amiibo figures and cards will be compatible, as will some select other amiibo. Specific details will be touched on in the Direct.
It should be noted that while Nintendo only gives a vague “fall/autumn” window for the free update, it will most certainly release in November after the Animal Crossing Direct airs and either before or at the same time as the Welcome amiibo! edition of New Leaf hits stores.
Next up are 50 brand new amiibo cards, launching in Europe on November 11, 2016 (November 3 in Japan, December 2 in NA). This new set of cards features animals that have not appeared in New Leaf yet, making them very interesting for those who dearly missed an animal from a previous game in the series and would like to invite them to stay in their New Leaf town.
Players who do not yet own Animal Crossing New Leaf and collectors who love multiple versions of the same game can grab Animal Crossing New Leaf: Welcome amiibo!, a re-release that includes the free update, on November 25 in Europe (Nov. 23 in Japan, December 2 in NA) both in the eShop and in retail stores. The retail version of Animal Crossing New Leaf: Welcome amiibo! will include one of the 50 new amiibo cards.
