Monster Hunter X: latest details from Famitsu (transmogging, save data transfer), more footage, screens

This week, Monster Hunter XX got a massive 64-page article in Famitsu magazine, the last one before launch. Most of the article is just a recap of previously revealed info, but there’s also some brand new tidbits in there about transmogging, save data transfer, and more. As usual, a big thanks to Gaijin Hunter for the translation!

First, here’s everything that will be carried over when transferring your save data from Monster Hunter Generations to Monster Hunter XX:

  • Story Progression;
  • Hunter rank (if it’s over 9, it’s lowered to 8, but you get to keep old titles);
  • Hunter name and appearance, though you can change your name and your gender just once after transferring;
  • All your weapons, gear, palicoes, armour sets, money, etc.
  • The “Cleared” status for normal quests

And here’s everything that’s not transferred:

  • Everything that was in progress when you stopped playing (such as a hunter for hire currently out);
  • Filters/settings for the screen (UI, etc.);
  • Guild Card settings;
  • Play time;
  • Event quests and challenge quests (so make sure you download and complete the quests before you do the transfer, because you will not be able to transfer just the quests, and only the contents you unlock can be carried over).

A quick note about the feature that lets you re-roll the Skills of your Palicoes: this applies not just to Support Skills, but also Passive Skills.

Next, Famitsu magazine shares details about two breakthrough quests:

  • Congalala: required to reach the high rank village;
  • Diablos: required for G rank.

There’s also another new feature called Daily Quests: those are quests you can complete every day, in order to get some additional goodies (monster parts, money, etc.). Of course, you don’t have to clear them if you don’t want to, but they’re a great way to farm for materials.

The article also mentions a feature that lets you take a level max rank weapon, and turn it into a G rank weapon, but it’s not clear how it works exactly.

If you think that appearance is pretty important for a Hunter, you’re in luck: Monster Hunter XX will have transmogging. For those who don’t know, it’s a system that allows you take a base armour, fuse it with another armour, and then end up with an armour with the appearance of the first BUT with the stats and features of the second.

Basically, you can take that armour set that’s not really convenient for hunting but looks really cool, and fuse it with that other armour set that has perfect stats but looks horrendous. Doing so creates a new, separate armour set, and you lose the original sets. Fortunately, you can take the new one apart and get back the original sets, but you will not get back the materials you used for transmogging.

To use transmogging, you need special materials, that you can get by spending some Horn’s Coins, which are coins you get for completing G rank quests. In other words, it’s a feature that only G rank hunters will have access to. It’s the perfect feature for players who want to use the collaboration equipment, that is generally not suited for very high level quests.

And it turns out that transmogging also works with Palicoe/Prowler equipment, which is good news for players who favour them for hunting.

Finally, Monster Hunter XX will have one new, minor feature: you can have items delivered to you during a quest, though only low level ones such as rations or pickaxes. As for the Sailor Moon collaboration, it will be available from March 24th.

Here’s some screenshots illustrating those new features:

And here’s some screencaps from the official website:

But that’s not all! Here’s some more gameplay footage for the game, from the latest episode of Capcom TV. This time, we got to see the Diablos, but also its Deviant version!
