Minecraft: Update Aquatic revealed at Minecon Earth, Better Together update delayed on Switch, more

Last week, the Minecon Earth livestream was held, celebrating everything Minecraft. Several announcements were made at the show, including a few that applies to the Nintendo Switch version specifically.

If you missed the livestream, you can check out the full recording on YouTube:

And now, on to the announcements themselves. First: the Update Aquatic. It will add various aquatic-related elements and features to the game, such as:

  • coral
  • kelp
  • more types of fish
  • dolphins
  • explorable shipwrecks
  • new water physics
  • a new weapon: trident (can be used in close-combat, but can also be thrown at enemies. It can even be enhanted, with the Loyalty enhantment making it come back to you after you’ve thrown it. Other enchantments include Impaler and Slipstream Dash)

This update will come to Minecraft in a future update, coming this Spring.

Also, ahead of the show, fans were asked to vote for a mob to add to the game. And it’s Mob B that was selected!

Finally: the Better Together update. It was originally slated for Summer release, but was later delayed to this Autumn, and then this Winter. But as many feared, the update for the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft has been delayed to an unspecified date in 2018.

Here’s what Mojang had to say about this:

Separately, the Nintendo Switch community will still be getting the new version of Minecraft with cross-platform multiplayer, but not until 2018. Nintendo has been a great partner and we’re really excited to fully bring Switch players into the fold, however, we need to make sure we deliver the best experience possible. So the new version of Minecraft will now be coming to Nintendo Switch next year. Xbox One, PC, mobile and Nintendo Switch, all playing multiplayer Minecraft together in 2018 – I’m getting emotional just thinking about it…

As for the Super Duper Graphics Pack, it’s also been delayed to next year, but considering the Better Together update is also delayed to 2018 on Nintendo Switch in the first place, it doesn’t really change much for Nintendo Switch players!
