Miitomo to drop support for iOS 7 in December or later

Since Miitomo launched, back in March, Nintendo has released quite a few updates for Miitomo. But despite that, the system requirements have remained unchanged:

iOS

This application is supported on iOS 7.0 or newer on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
Note: iPhone 4 is not supported.

Android

This application is supported on Android 4.1 or newer.
Note: Some devices may not be supported.

But following an update to be released in December (or later), Nintendo will drop support for devices running iOS 7. The new system requirements for iOS devices will be as follows:

This application is supported on iOS 8.0 or newer on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

System requirements will remain unchanged on Android, though we don’t know for how long. Unfortunately, we don’t know if Nintendo is dropping support for iOS 7 in order to simplify development (one less OS to worry about), and/or if there’s an upcoming feature that will not work on iOS7. Officially, Nintendo is dropping support for iOS 7 in order to “continue improving our services and your experience”.

If you’re using a device running iOS 7, you will have to either update to a more recent version of iOS, or buy a new device if no update is possible, if you want to keep using Miitomo. Right now, it’s not clear if only the new version will be incompatible with iOS 7, or if the app will stop working at all even for users who do not try to update the app.
