Media Create: more sales data for Week 13 (2016), Yo-kai Sangokushi

Today, Media Create released its weekly report for video game sales in Japan, providing us with more sales data for Week 13.

During that week, a total of 876 000 games were sold, which amounts to only 76.42% of Week 12 sales (which were considerably up compared to Week 11). The ratio of new games in total Software sales is also down, to 70.14%. During Week 13, sales of new games amounted to 46.32% of their sales during Week 12. Yo-kai Watch Sangokushi certainly was popular, but it wasn’t enough to compensate for the drop in sales.

Yo-kai Watch SangokushiTalking of Yo-kai Sangokushi, this Yo-kai Watch x Romance of the Three Kingdom collaboration title sold 269 516 units during the first four two days. Media Create reports that 63.87% of all units shipped to retailers were effectively sold, which means that Level-5 had prepared about 421 976 units for launch day.

As a comparison, the previous spin-off (Yo-kai Watch Busters, released in July 2015) sold about 694 000 units at launch. Yo-kai Sangokushi did slightly worse, but that’s to be expected for a Strategy-RPG, which is less accessible than an Action-RPG (especially one based on the multiplayer mode from Yo-kai Watch 2, that players were already pretty familiar with).

But as mentioned on Wednesday, the amount of games left unsold really isn’t a problem for Level-5, and certainly not for retailers who will not have any trouble selling the remaining units. According to Dengeki, Yo-kai Sangokushi sold about 274 000 units at launch, with a sellthrough ratio of 70%.

But how does Yo-kai Sangokushi fares compared to another similar cross-over, Pokémon Conquest? The latter sold about 172 000 units at launch, with a sellthrough ratio of 58.43%. In other wordq, Yo-kai Sangokushi sold more than Pokémon Conquest, had more units shipped for Day 1, and had a better sellthrough ratio. A pretty satisfying debut, in short. Now it remains to be seen how it’s going to sell within the next few weeks and months!

Finally, according to retailer reports, Disney Art Academy had a rather slow debut, with only ~20% of all units sold during the first day. However, it’s not cause for concern (yet), as sales for that sort of games are usually stronger during the week-end (not to mention that it’s the kind of game selling on long periods of time).
