Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy headed to the Nintendo Switch

Last year, Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy was released on Nintendo 3DS. It’s the first entry in a new Layton series, starring Katrielle Layton (Professor Layton’s daughter), which has an anime series currently airing in Japan (Layton Mystery Agency ~Katrielle’s Mystery Files~).

Many fans wondered whether there would be a Nintendo Switch version at launch, but in the end, the game was only released on Nintendo 3DS (and mobile platforms). But this week, Level-5 will announce that the game is now headed to the Nintendo Switch!

Early leaks from Famitsu reveal that Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy will be released on Nintendo Switch on August 9th, in Japan.

Very little details are available about this version of the game, but Famitsu does mention compatibility with “Nazotoki Charms”: NFC toys by Takara Tomy (though it’s not clear how they interact with the game at all).

As far as controls go, players will be able to use the touchscreen (Famitsu does mention a touch pen, that could be included in the box), or regular button controls. Unfortunately, it’s not clear what warrants the “DX” in the title, but if The Snack World: Trejarers Gold is anything to go by, we can expect all the additional content to be included from the getgo.

Next, voice actors:

  • Katrielle: Kasumi Arimura
  • Sherl: Kouji Yakusho

Those are the same voice actors as the Nintendo 3DS, which is hardly surprising: Level-5 wasn’t going to redub the whole game just for the fun of it.

Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy (Switch) comes out on August 9th in Japan. It’s not clear if there will be a western release, and if yes, when. The Upcoming Games page has been updated!
