Layton’s Mystery Journey gets a trailer, and a “Real World Puzzle Solving” game

Today, Level-5 shared a brand new trailer for Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy on the Nintendo 3DS. It shows many different animated cutscenes from the various episodes, some brand new puzzles, and more.

Here it is:

And today, Level-5 also launched a promotional campaign called Layton’s Mystery Journey Real World Puzzle Solving, in collaboration with SCRAP (who make Real Escape games, such as Defenders of the Triforce). Players from all around the world can get together and solve puzzles. The campaign will remain active for 3 months (until September 21st)

If you wish to participate, you can click here to head over to the official website. The entire Real World Puzzle Solving game takes place from within your web browser, though hints for solving puzzles appear both online and in the real world. The best part? You don’t even have to register, though an account is required to save your progress (a Google Account will do).

A total of 50 different puzzles will appear all around the world (Great Britain, United States, New Zealand, Australia, Korea, Japan, and more), and are found in 8 different languages (Japanese, English, Italian, French, Dutch, Spanish, German, and Korean). Thanks to the “Translayton” system (basically, Google Translate), you can communicate with people from all around the world, and exchange information/clues with each other.

If you manage to solve the puzzles, you will get a serial code to enter either in the Nintendo 3DS or mobile version of Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy, in order to unlock a special outfit for Katrielle + interior decorations.

Here’s the various puzzles:

June 20th (Tuesday)

Look out for the “I Have a Puzzle…” song on YouTube…

Pikotaro will present the first puzzle on YouTube. Though you might normally think of pineapple-pens when you see him, Pikotaro will don Layton’s signature silk hat and sing the first puzzle.

June 23rd (Friday) – 30th (Friday)

Sink your teeth into the “Chew On This” Puzzle in Shibuya. A larger-than-life character holding a silk hat will appear somewhere in Shibuya! Pay attention to that top hat if you want to top Kat…

June 30th (Monday) – July 2nd (Sunday)

Hang in Suspense for “A Bridge Puzzle” in San Francisco. A puzzle panel will appear in a popular spot where tourists take pictures of the gorgeous Golden Gate.

Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy (3DS) comes out on July 20th in Japan, and Early Fall in Europe and North America.
