Japan: more sales data for Week 37, 2016 (Media Create)

Today, Media Create released its weekly report for video game sales in Japan, providing us with more sales data for Week 37. During that week, a total of 666 000 units were sold for Software, which amounts to 280.02% of Week 36 sales. That’s quite the difference with Week 36, which had the lowest Software sales of 2016 (and the second lowest since Media Create started recording data for the Japanese market).

Hardware-wise, the increase is also pretty noticeable. Media Create reports 151 000 units sold for all platforms, which amounts to 414.14% of Week 36 sales. In fact, it’s the first time in 36 weeks (since January) that total Hardware sales have topped 150 000 units. Most of that increase is due to the launch of the PlayStation 4 Slim, though the Nintendo 2DS did contribute (about 18 000 units sold).

Finally, here’s some Day 1 sell-through data:

  • [3DS] One Piece Dai Kaizoku Colosseum – 30%. A rather modest launch, but sales should be stronger during the week-end. Unfortunately, we don’t know how big the first shipment is.
