Japan: Famitsu sales for April 2016 (Top 30 Retail + Digital)

In its latest issue, Famitsu is providing sales data for April 2016 (March 28th – April 24th to be more precise), which include digital sales (from the Nintendo eShop, PSN, etc.).

NB: the digital sales are estimations, and not 100% accurate.

Yo-kai Watch SangokushiGlobally, April 2016 was another slow-ish month for the Japanese market, outside the best-selling games. Only the top 3 titles managed to sell over 100 000 units, though the fact that the numbers below do not cover the Golden Week accentuate the “slowishness” of sales.

The best-seller was Yo-kai Sangokushi, which didn’t sell all that much on the Nintendo eShop with only 12 848 estimated sales. The physical vs digital ratio is generally not very high on Nintendo platforms (with exceptions such as games selling out at launch, for example), but it’s particularly true for children-focused titles such as one from the Yo-kai Watch series.

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 enjoyed good sales in April, which is partly due to the fact that it came out on March 24th (4 days before the start of the period covered by the nulbers below). Unfortunately, sales have been pretty disappointing compared to the previous entries, and digital sales didn’t really make up for the drop.

As for Pokémon Red Version / Green Version / Blue Version / Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition, it sold 55 210 additional units in April, which is pretty impressive for a Virtual Console title. But what’s interesting this time around are the digital sales, which amount for 43 847 of the 55 210 units sold in April: retailers are running out of download cards and retail versions (with the goodies), maybe permanently (at least, for the retail version).
