Indie news (Feb. 23, Round 2): Snake Pass / Axiom Verge

Today’s Indie news (Round 2!): pricing and dev diary for Snake Pass, but also…

Snake Pass

Today, Sumo Digital shared some more news about Snake Pass, starting with a pretty crucial detail: the pricing! Snake Pass will cost £16.99 / $19.99 / €19.99 at launch. It might get a retail release later down the line, but right now, the team is focusing exclusively on the digital release.

Next, dev diaries! Today, Sumo Digital shared the very first dev diary for the game, that you can find below. In a blog post, they explain that development took roughly 12 months, and that during that time, the game dramatically changed. Almost everything changed: the scope, level design, and even the visual style.

And so, when development began, they thought it would be cool to capture the game’s evolution over time, and share real stories from the development team. And that’s how they ended up with a series of dev diaries!

Here’s what Seb Liese (creator of the game) had to say about that:

The first developer diary shows how quickly the game evolved. That original prototype already had the feel we wanted, but it was building an actual game around it that became the challenge. Seeing that rudimentary green snake is quite comical now. We worked so hard to turn him into something charming and ended up with the Noodle you see today, a character I hope that everyone will love.

Here’s the first dev diary for Snake Pass:

Finally, they confirm that the Nintendo Switch version of Snake Pass would be playable at the Unreal Engine stand (Booth 1024) during the Game Developers Conference, next week.

Snake Pass (Switch – eShop) comes out on March 29th in Europe and North America.
