  • Nintendo x Post Consummer promotion

Metroid: Samus Returns

Here’s a “new” commercial for Metroid: Samus Returns, which comes out in less than two weeks worldwide!

Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS) comes out on September 15th worldwide.

Mandatory installs on Nintendo Switch

Last week, Nintendo sent a press release to announce the release of Licenced Nintendo Switch  SanDisk microSDXC Cards by Western Digital. There will be two versions available: 64GB and 128GB, and they will be available in stores starting in October.

But what’s really interesting about this PR isn’t so much the microSDXC Cards themselves (if previous licenced SD cards are to go by, the only really significant bit about them will be their grossly inflated price), but rather the following paragraph:

Nintendo Switch gives players the option to supplement their system’s built-in storage, depending on how much digital content they choose to download. Ever since Nintendo Switch launched in March, the system has become home to a continually growing library of diverse downloadable games and content. Additional storage enables players to download more digital games and content, and take it all on the go. Also, a microSD card will be needed for certain Nintendo Switch games that contain an especially large amount of content and require additional storage for players to enjoy the full experience.

It reveals that some Nintendo Switch games will have mandatory installs, either because they’re too big to fit on a cartridge… or because the publisher is too cheap to pay for a higher-capacity one, instead pushing the storage cost on the player. So far, the only known game with mandatory install is NBA 2K18.
