[Brief] Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns shipments top 220 000 units in Japan

Earlier this month, Yoshifumi Hashimoto (Producer) announced on the official Story of Seasons blog that total shipments for the latest entry (Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns) had topped 200 000 units. Naturally, that number included digital sales (via the Nintendo eShop, and other websites selling download codes).

Fastforward a few weeks later, and total shipments for Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns have now topped 220 000 units. This means that digital sales for the game must be quite higher than expected. After all, according to Media Create, the game has sold over 162 000 units as of July 24th.

If there was no digital version, that would mean retailers have about 58 000 units left to sell (which isn’t realistic at all). With the digital version, we can assume that number is closer to 20 000 units, which means Story of Seasons may have sold about 38 000 units via the Nintendo eShop (which would be a pretty impressive number).

Naturally, those digital sales are pure speculation on our part, as Marvelous hasn’t shared any concrete sales data. The next Famitsu charts for physical + digital sales should give us a good idea of how much the game has sold digitally.

Finally, here’s how the previous Story of Seasons entries on Nintendo 3DS sold:

  • Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning (2012): 287.000 units
  • Story of Seasons (2014): 286.000 units

At this rate, it looks like Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns should have no problem reaching the sales of its predecessors!

Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns (3DS) comes out next year in North America.
