Axiom Verge announced for the Nintendo Switch, also getting the Multiverse Edition

In the past few weeks and months, there’s been various rumours and ramblings about Axiom Verge possibly coming to the Nintendo Switch. And yesterday, Badland Games finally confirmed it: yes, Axiom Verge is indeed coming to the Nintendo Switch, in August 2017. The best part? It’s also getting the Multiverse Edition at retail, just like the Wii U version!

Here’s the announcement trailer:

This edition of the game includes a specially commissioned and exclusive 2 Player Productions documentary about both Thomas Happ (the sole developer of the game) and Axiom Verge itself. For those who never heard of them before, 2 Player Productions also created the Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, Double Fine Adventure!, and the Amnesia Fortnight documentaries.

According to the press release, they spent “quality time with Thomas Happ to create a singular and emotive behind-the-scenes account for fans”. Unsurprisingly, it goes over the 5-year long solo production, but also the games that inspired Axiom Verge, and the challenges of balancing game development and his son (who has special needs).

Here’s everything included in the Multiverse Edition of Axiom Verge:

  • Copy of Axiom Verge on cartridge.
  • Deluxe booklet with developer’s commentary and art.
  • Double-sided poster with the world map and weapons/items in the game.
  • Exclusive making-of documentary.
  • Soundtrack CD (Available only on the Nintendo Switch… and as a pre-order bonus for all the other editions)

Naturally, the game is also releasing on the Nintendo eShop, where it will be sold $19.99 / 19.99€ / £14.99. The Multiverse Edition will cost €39.99 / £34.99 / $39.99.

Axiom Verge (Switch) comes out this August in Europe and North America. The Upcoming Releases page has been updated!
