AC Happy Home Designer: the Happy Home Network to launch next week in Japan; more details

Animal Crossing Happy Home DesignerLast month, Nintendo announced that Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer would be getting a sharing service in September in Japan. It’s called Tsukutta/Tsukutter (Twitter + past tense form of “Tsukuru”, which means “to create” in Japanese) in Japan, and it will be known as “Happy Home Network” in the English version of the game.

Today, Nintendo revealed that the Happy Home Network would be launched on September 16th in Japan, via an update: more details about how to download it will be announced at a later date. As mentioned previously, it will allow players to upload their own designs on the internet, and check out those of other players. What’s more, there will also be monthly contests for those looking for some competitive fun.

On the official website, Nintendo gives additional details about the Happy Home Network, starting with how you share your designs. You can either upload them whenever you complete the request of a villager, or pick up a design from your client list (for those you already completed). In order to upload a design, you first need to name the theme you went with when making it (for example: Garage Life, as seen on the screencap below).

Next: checking out the design of other players. You can do so from the red and white computer at Nook’s Home office, and using various criteria:

  • new uploads
  • popular designs
  • villagers (the client who requested the design)
  • type of public facility
  • favorited designers

As for ratings, you can pick up 2 out of 4 possible ratings:

  • I want to live there
  • Cool
  • Unique
  • Cute

For example, you can say a particular design is both “I want to live there” and “Cute” (but not “I want to live there”, “Cute” and “Unique” together).

Of course, if you find a home you like, you can go visit it in “person”, but also rate it and favorite its creator so you can easily find their other creations (other players can do the same with your own). Good news: you have the possibility to take the design patterns from those homes back with you, if you want.

Finally, Nintendo explains how the monthly contests will work. Every month, between the 1st day and 15th day, contests will be held with various themes. Quite obviously, you have to upload a home with a design based on that very theme in order to win. But what do you get if you do happen to win one of the contests?

Two things:

  • a special place at the Happy Home Network, giving you a lot more exposure than you usually would on your own;
  • participants will also get some rather large items as rewards.

Here’s various screencaps from the official website:

In Europe and North America, the Happy Home Network should be available at launch since it’s mentioned in the PAX Prime trailer. However, it’s quite likely players will have to download a Software update first, just like in Japan.

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (3DS) will come out on September 25th in North America, and October 2nd in Europe.
